A Candle Loses Nothing By Lighting Another Candle

What makes a beautiful person? There are many different perceptions of beautiful people. But, to me, a truly beautiful person is someone that sees the beauty in others. If you look like a Victoria’s Secret model and act like the plastics from Mean Girls, You’re not the person I would want to be around.

When I was little, I grew up with this guy and I’ve known him my whole life. In our teenage years, he went down a pretty rough path and everyone did not seem to think he would get out of this stage of his life. To me, he is my childhood. Most of my great memories have him in it and no matter what I always saw and continue to see that little boy that was so happy, my best friend, and first crush. So, I always said “He will be okay. He is going to get out of this lifestyle and this is only going to make him stronger than he already is! Just give it time.” Sure enough, he turned his life around for the good and is in the best place he has ever been. I never once looked down on him and would never because I will always see the beauty in him more than anything. That also makes me feel good cause I trust my gut about the people I put my energy towards.

Even now, when it comes to someone in my dream career field, I’ve met this girl who’s about to graduate from my school and doing a lot of different projects and doing big things. Have I been a little jealous? Of course! But, I can’t compare my journey to someone else’s. I can only compare myself to the person I was yesterday! She’d post on social media everything she has been doing and I just have to message her and say “Keep up your good work! You’re going places and going to do big things.” When I say that, I mean it one-hundred percent! To me, I know that means a lot to her and would only give her motivation to put more work in and keep going! Does that hurt me in my career or my ego? Absolutely NOT! It makes me feel good motivating other people because they motivate me as well! Even if it’s just a little compliment that inspires them, it will always mean something to them and you know that you touched their heart in some way, shape, or form.

One day when I was performing a solo, this little girl came up to me and said “I want to be just like you!” At first, that inspired me. What I didn’t think about was that I inspired her by doing something I love! To be inspired is always great, it keeps you going and striving for more! But, to inspire someone else is an honor. I believe that in order for you to rise you have to lift other people up as well. Inspire others and there is no doubt in my mind that what you give to the universe, you will receive back.

Compliment people. Magnify their strengths, not their weaknesses.
