The Reality of Being Independent

Independent (Adj.): Free from outside control; not depending on another’s  authority.

What most people initially think of as independent is just a strong-willed person that has their own back in life and is very prideful. But, what you initially see in an independent person isn’t the whole story.

When I moved out of my parents house across the country I knew I had to be independent going to work, school, and live in the beginning stage of Adulthood.

Entering the life of an independent women you set an expectation that you have life all figured out and nothing can touch you.. But, life will unapologetically put you in check.

 & Reality…

The reality is that there’s a lot of struggle, tears, stress, and hard work. But, I wouldn’t go back. When you live an independent life it’s about overcoming the struggles that make you stronger and you don’t have to do it alone.

One of the biggest myths of independent women is that we are too “Prideful.”

The Art of independence is that:

We’re not afraid to ask for help.

We’re not afraid of failure, we challenge it

We’re not embarrassed of our past or our failures

We have good hearts

We can be soft.. but strong

We’re unapologetic

And Honest.

Being independent isn’t about living a lavish life but taking control on how you handle life everyday without anyones approval.

Thank you for giving insight to the perspective of an independent woman. I think there is this idea that independence equates to being bullet proof of invincible. Thank you for showing that it’s not about what happens to you as much as it is about how you react to it. That is the true heart of an independent individual.

    Thanks for sharing!
